The share of the Power Division Budget has an increasing trend in overall development budget, non-development budget, recurrent budget, capital budget and total budget of the government. The ratio of the Power Division Budget in total government revenue, overall GDP and industries GDP witnessed increasing trend over the years. This is due to power being the major infrastructure sector influencing the overall economic growth of the country. Power sector has been identified as the thrust sector in the Sixth Five Year Plan because uninterrupted power supply is prerequisite to attract private sector investment. On considering the strategic importance, Finance Division is allocating higher allocation for Power Division.
